Adaptive Leadership
**This WiBF Webinar offers CPD Points (1 pt)**
Fiona Robertson unpacks Adaptive Leadership—a transformative framework designed to help leaders and organisations navigate the complexities of today’s ever-changing world. Developed by Ronald Heifetz, Marty Linsky, and others at the Harvard Kennedy School, the core idea is to enable leaders to address challenges that do not have straightforward, technical solutions and instead require new learning, innovation, and collaboration.
In this webinar we will discuss what makes adaptive leadership special including:
- Focus on Complex Challenges: Unlike technical problems, which have clear solutions and can often be resolved by an expert, adaptive challenges are complex and involve changing people’s values, beliefs, and behaviours. Adaptive Leadership equips leaders to tackle these kinds of problems effectively.
- Encourages Experimentation: Adaptive Leadership emphasises a willingness to experiment, take risks, and adapt strategies based on what works, rather than relying on established methods that may no longer be effective.
- Mobilises People: Adaptive leaders engage and mobilise their teams and stakeholders to co-create solutions. They guide people through the discomfort of change by addressing resistance and creating a shared vision for the future.
- Builds Resilience: It fosters resilience by encouraging leaders to focus on learning, growth and agility, rather than being paralysed by uncertainty or fear of failure.
- Emphasises Emotional Intelligence: Adaptive Leadership requires self-awareness, empathy, and the ability to manage relationships effectively. Leaders must be attuned to their own emotions and those of their teams, fostering trust and open communication.
- Challenges the Status Quo: It encourages leaders to ask difficult questions and confront deeply held assumptions that might be limiting growth or innovation.
Key takeaways:
- • What is Adaptive Leadership
- • What makes Adaptive Leadership so special
- • Resources for further study

Thriving Teams in Tricky Times – Cultivating Resilience & Psychological Safety
**This WiBF Masterclass offers CPD Points (1 pt)**
Masterclass date: Thursday 10th April 2025
How do you create an environment where your people thrive – individually and as a team – especially when things go wrong? Let’s face it, disruption is a part of our day-to-day work, so before your team gets to crisis point, learn how to manage the common human challenges of working as a team, such as how to handle mistakes, failure, and stress responses that can lead to accidental unkindness and frustration. What’s more, in a world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA), this level of uncertainty can take its toll on even the most motivated of individuals, and disengagement, defensiveness and distrust can creep into even the most well-established teams.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be equipped with the tools, practices, and confidence to steer your team through the storms of adversity.
From ‘Black Box Thinking’, tapping into ‘Struggle’ and ‘Kindful leadership’, to ‘Growth vs Fixed mindset’, you’ll come away with a new appreciation of what it takes to cultivate a culture where individuals thrive at work and together as a team to deliver a thriving performance – whether in calm seas or the thickest of storms.
Who should attend? People who lead and manage a team – no matter how large or small – with the desire to build a thriving team culture of psychologically safe, resilient and motivated individuals. This is also perfect for intact teams to begin building a shared understanding and culture of psychological safety.
This session will cover:
- – Discover the four key elements for thriving teams.
- – Create a Psychological Safety Checklist for practical improvement.
- – Identify next steps for fostering resilient, growth-minded individuals and teams.
- – Develop a mindset that turns mistakes into learning opportunities.
Date: Thursday 10th April 2025
Time: 12:30pm to 3:00pm AEDT
